Necrotizing Fasciitis [NF] is a potentially fatal, progressive, rapidly spreading inflammatory soft tissue infection located in the deep fascia with secondary necrosis of the subcutaneous tissues. At the onset, it characteristically spares the muscle and the skin.
SYNONYMS; Acute infective gangrene, Flesh eating bacteria infection, Haemolytic strept gangrene, Meleny ulcer.
It is termed Cervico-facial Necrotizing Fasciitis [CNF] when the head and neck region is affected.
